Courses

Our courses are organised in terms (semesters): January to March, April to June and September to December. We do not have courses in July/August. See Term dates.

The terms are 10 to 12 weeks, depending on the dates of some national holidays. Students usually enrol for at least a term but can enrol at any time during a term for any number of weeks (if there are places available). The maximum number of students in a class is 18, average 14. Students usually move up a level every three months.

We have morning, afternoon and evening classes on week-days (Monday to Friday):

Mornings: 10 am - 1 pm
Afternoons: 2 pm - 5 pm
Evenings: 6 pm - 8 pm

There is a tea-break for 20 minutes during each lessson.

Teaching

All students are carefully tested by interview and given a written test before they are placed in a suitable class. Tests can be emailed to students.

We use course books with additional individual topic material and video aids. Course books are available from the Office. The cost of books is not included in the school fees.

Only English is spoken in the class-room.

Homework is given after every lesson.

GENERAL ENGLISH COURSES:

We have classes at all levels from Elementary to Proficiency. In the summer term we do not have Elementary levels.

CONVERSATION CLASSES :

We offer special 3 hour Conversation classes which provide students with essential extra practice in speaking English. These enable students to make use of the new grammar that they are learning to improve their communication skills.

These classes are at all levels offering activities to encourage speaking at lower language levels and opportunities for discussion for those with a better command of English. A conversation class is one of the options for all 15 hour students.

ENGLISH FOR BUSINESS :

Students may study English for Business for 3 hours per week or as part of a general English course. Students should ideally be at least First Certificate level to study English for Business.

These courses are very useful for those intending to go on to work in a business environment or in tourism.

We prepare students for the nationally-recognised examination, the Cambridge Business English Certificate (BEC) — See Examinations

EXAMINATION COURSES :

When students reach or are at the required class level we can prepare them for four University of Cambridge Examinations in English:

Special tests are given to those wishing to take the Cambridge examinations so that the student can be advised before he or she makes a decision to take an examination. See Examinations

IELTS COURSE:

IELTS (International Language Testing System) is designed to assess the language ability of candidates who need to study or work where English is used as the language of communication.

Students wanting to go to University may wish to take the IELTS Test. See Examinations
