The Kingsley School of English has been running for over 35 years, since it was established in 1980. We offer English classes for all levels and exams at our school, located in Golders Green, in leafy North London.
My name is Victoria and I am the school principal and academic director, as well as a fully qualified member of the teaching staff. My husband, Juan, is the office manager and we run the school together. We are one of the very few family-run schools left in London!
Our aim is to offer excellent teaching at reasonable prices in a friendly atmosphere at our school building in Golders Green, North West London. All our teachers are native English speakers, fully qualified English teacher and have many years experience in English teaching and preparing students for exams. We know all our students by name – around 180 each term (trimester) – and we interview each one personally.
We specialise in students from the EU and those not requiring a visa – and in looking after our many au-pair students.
We have group classes in the mornings and evenings and we also offer private lessons in the afternoons.
We prepare you, if you wish, for the Cambridge or IELTS examinations and we have excellent exam results.
We are at school every day and we are always available to contact by email or phone to help with the problems that can arise when you are away from home.
We hope our website gives you all the information you need and if you would like to contact us please telephone, email or come in to our office just one minute away from Golders Green tube station – we will be happy to help you.
The school is situated in a very pleasant, safe residential area of North West London.
The nearest underground station is Golders Green which is within 5 minutes’ walk. Golders Green is also a major bus terminal. Oxford Street and Central London are just a 15-minute journey away.
There are many coffee bars and restaurants in Golders Green and the uniquely pretty Hampstead Village is also very near. Hampstead Village attracts many tourists and is well known for its great shopping and busy atmosphere. It is a lovely part of North London.
Classes are held in our main school building, around 5 minutes walk from Golders Green tube & bus station and our office. All classes have the same timetable and there is an opportunity to meet other students over coffee at break-time – a very lively time.
We offer both morning and evening courses, so you can always find a class that works with your timetable.
More important than the building are the teachers! We are very proud of our teachers. They are all highly qualified native speakers who enjoy teaching our students. They are responsible for our very good exam results!
We offer General English language courses from Elementary to Proficiency level including all the four skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking. Only English is spoken in the class-room. We also offer Exam Preparation courses for students who are thinking of taking the Cambridge First Certificate (B2), Advanced (C1) or Proficiency (C2). We have specific IELTS exam preparation courses for those who need to take the IELTS exam.
We hold special speaking classes on Fridays as well as English for Business.
Our courses are organised in terms (trimesters): September to December, January to March and April to June. We do not have courses in July/August because that is a time when most of our students are back in their home countries.
Students usually enrol for at least a term to take advantage of our best prices. The more you study, the better the price. However, it is also fine to enrol at any time during a term for any number of weeks (providing there are places available). The maximum number of students in a class is 18, average 14.
We have morning classes on week-days (Monday to Friday) offering full-time (15 hours per week) and part-time classes (6 , 9 or 12 hours per week). Class times are 10 am – 1 pm. We have evening classes, both for general English and exam preparation courses, and we can also offer individual lessons in the afternoons.
We assess all students individually face to face and with a written test before they are placed in a suitable class. Tests can be emailed to students if necessary.
Each course works with a course book, we order these for students and give them out on the first day of each course. Teachers also provide students with plenty of additional materials and use audio and video as part of our dynamic, interactive classes. The cost of books and exams is not included in the term fees.
